Ukraine Crisis Scams - SCPO
Action Fraud has received an increasing number of reports relating to fake emails purporting to raise money for those affected by the crisis in Ukraine. The emails use a variety of tactics, including soliciting Bitcoin donations and sales of t-shirts to lure people into parting with their money.
The links in the emails lead to malicious websites that are designed to steal your money and personal information.
When donating, check the charity’s name and registration number at www.gov.uk/checkcharity. Most charities with an annual income of £5,000 or more must be registered.
Spotted a suspicious email? Forward it to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS): report@phishing.gov.uk
Suspicious Text Message? Have you ever received a suspicious text message that you weren’t quite sure about? Maybe it asked you to “verify” your personal or financial details? You can report suspicious text messages by forwarding them to 7726. This enables your provider to investigate the origin of the text and take action, if found to be malicious. If you are concerned about something suspicious, please call 101 or report it online at www.sussex.police.uk. In an emergency, always dial 999.
