I feel this is an important topic to cover, since so many of us are eternally seeking a certain figure, or a certain look. We feel that once we reach our goal, life will be better because we will finally be happy with the way we look.
But the truth is – the figure/look you want, is never the figure/look you want. Even once you’ve reached your goal, you still won’t be totally satisfied, and you’ll be on to the next quest before you can blink. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to be always trying to better ourselves. It’s human nature. And, given that you’ve likely ended up healthier, fitter and more energetic, you’ve certainly not been through a pointless process. But, it’s still important to remember that life will still largely be the same. Losing weight is not going to solve all your problems.
A lot of people say to themselves, or even subconsciously think, something along the lines of “When I’ve lost XYZ kilos, then I’ll …….” Perhaps you want to learn something new, or start a new activity – perhaps you’re waiting until you’ve lost some weight before you start a new exercise class. My advice is this. Work towards health and fitness goals as the main focus of your effort – look after your body, and enjoy the feeling of improving. Aim to tone up, lose some belly fat or whatever it is you’d like to see, but don’t be too prescriptive and remember that the expectation of looking a certain way should not be the main focus of your efforts.
Go and do the things you want to do regardless of where you’re at in relation to your goals. Make the steps you need to take to reach your goals into something which is just a part of your life, and not a whole phase of your life where you’re waiting to look a certain way before you can begin the next phase.
