Preparations begin for socially-distant VE Day Street Party

Friday, May the 8th represents the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, and socially-distant plans have been put in place to celebrate the event.

Villagers are being encouraged to join in a nationwide “Stay at home” street party, with picnics, singing and remembrance from your garden.

Plans had been in place to deck out Lintot Square in red, white and blue bunting for the anniversary, however these plans have had to be put on hold. Instead, neighbours all around the country are invited to share a picnic in their front gardens, adhering to social distancing rules.

In previous years, the country has celebrated with street parties and community gatherings, however this year the celebrations will look slightly different.

A timetable has been put together to help unite the country in celebration.

The 9pm rendition of Vera Lynn’s classic We’ll Meet Again” is incredibly apt in these current times, as the Police have asked all to remember to follow the quarantine rules.
